How to Pack Paintings Before You Move

Have a look at helpful and useful tips on how to pack your paintings correctly on your move.

  • Collect required packing supplies – Mirror or Picture Box, Blank Newsprint Papers, Tissue Papers, Bubble Wraps and Heavy Duty Packaging Tape. You will also need labeling stickers and permanent makers to label your packing.

  • Put masking tape across the front of the painting (If your painting is framed with glass) like an X to keep the pieces in place in case the glass breaks or cracks unfortunately in transition.

  • Cover the framed canvas or painting with Bubble Wrap or blank newsprint paper; and tape it closed.

  • If you are packing a painting with glass then put the painting in a picture, mirror box and if it fit loosely in the box; fill in the spaces with lightly wadded blank newsprint paper or other appropriate padding supplies.

  • If two boxes are required for the painting; then put the second box on top of the other by telescoping them together and fill spaces with lightly wadded blank newsprint paper.

  • If you are packing a canvas painting (no frame, no glass), wrap the box in Bubble Wrap again or blank newsprint paper, tape it, then build a second box for the first box. Your chances of sharp objects puncturing the box and canvas during the move are slim.

  • At last, tape the box or boxes shut and mark it "Fragile-Art."
